The first Farmhands program was scheduled for Saturday the 12th, but was canceled due to adverse weather conditions. The clouds were hanging low when I got up and by 9am it was nearly a white out. I thought my plans would also be delayed and so I watched the garden turn white while enjoying a cup of coffee. By the time my coffee was done the snow had stopped falling and by noon it was gone.
I started spreading compost the day before and so the equipment was ready to go. I finished up in time to collect eggs, take a shower and go to my other job at the Asian Palate. Little did those unsuspecting sushi lovers know that I was in a cloud of compost shortly before preparing their raw fish. Well, in these situations I recall a story Laurence Holmes, of Cresset Farm, told of a taste test where people preferred the milk with manure added to it.
Special thanks to Rocco who took a couple knocks from flying clods to get this great action shot.
